Swinging by SC... Stopped here for some southern food... Possibly the most tasty fried chicken I have ever had, chicken and rice soup was also yummy. And I suggest get anything with gravy on it, cause everything is better with gravy!

Yuck!! Food was horrible...cold items on plate, soup was salty, hard cornbread muffins and rolls, and collard greens were tough, and the list goes on. Apparently, the salads were the best thing our group ordered. Please season your fried chicken! There is no excuse for not using salt and pepper! The most embarrassing thing was I raved at how good the food was when I went in the past to people that went there for the first time today...ughh! Never again will I go here. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED!

Good food and atmosphere. Great prices and service was very good. Had catfish, okra with tomatoes, cabbage, black eye peas and couldn't complain. They overcooked my friends rib eye but gave us desert and comped us even. Super friendly.

Lizard's is pretty good southern food. I enjoy it, especially the fried chicken, sweet tea and the cornbread. However, the food can be hit or miss at times, although it hasn't been happening as much as it was before. Highly recommend for people who want a southern meal.

A home style restaurant with decent food, great friendly service. The fried chicken was good and the collard greens needed some love to give them the wow factor. I tried the pecan pie and it looked good but didn't taste so good.

Blech!!! Salty...and I like salt. Chicken fried steak was some sort of frozen hockey puck in a former life.

The mash potatoes were tasteless, my bread roll had mold on it and the chicken fried steak was a salt puck. This isn't true country cooking unless your grandma was a horrible cook.

Ok country cooking. Chicken fried steak is good. Limas, creamed corn, and squash casserole are ok. Just average overall.

Great food, great price. On the road back from Florida to the frozen North, fate, well, actually, one of those hotel coupon books, brought us to Columbia. We consulted our Yelp concierge as to what fine dining establishment would enjoy our custom on this lovely April night. We trusted the almost unanimously positive comments on the curiously named Lizard's Thicket. I was not disappointed, although hubby was somewhat. They have an original menu, in that you choose from a selection of meats, then from 1 to 3 vegetables from a very large selection. (BTW, jell-o is considered a vegetable here! See the picture of the menu someone posted for the choices available.) You can also have only vegetables if you prefer. The price depends on how many items you take. I had the fried flounder, and we shared roasted vegetables, squash casserole(almost like dessert!), fried okra, fried squash and carrot/raisin salad. Hubby had beef stew, which he found too mushy (cooked into mush) but tasty. Other than that, it was all very good, there was more than we could eat, and the staff was very nice and helpful. In conclusion: we would likely stop in again if we ever were in the area, but probably wouldn't make a special trip.

Its been a few years since I have been to this location but... most times when you are driving up and down the highway traveling taking a journey down the culinary exploration highway is not in the cards! But this place is well worth it! It is good ole down south South Cakilaki grubbin! Sweet tea, lima beans and rice, mac & cheese, meatloaf, greens you name it its on the board.... NOT the menu the board... go there and you will find out! Being a "Yankee" by folks in SC... despite actually being from Maryland which is BELOW THE MASON DIXON LINE AND TECHNICALLY IN THE SOUTH!!!!!!!!! I can tell good southern food from bad... this is good home cooked southern food Try you'll like it!

I love Lizard's Thicket and there are several in Columbia. MY favorite is the Chicken Fried Steak with some warm blackberry cobbler & vanilla ice cream for dessert. One "head scratcher" though is the fact that they serve instant mashed potatoes. Really?? At a place where they pride themselves on country cooking? That's almost sacrilegious.

I love here! I have been going to various Thicket locations since I was two years old, and like I said in my other review, it's a treasured memory from my childhood! I remember goin here after I had been on a plane all day, it was lashing down outside, and I just wanted to get to the hotel. I didn't even want food I was so tired. But the second I walked in here, all that was forgotten - I wanted corn muffins and lima beans and DINNER!

Plain diner type food. Wait service very good. Nothing special or healthy here.
